More than 15 years ago, our mother was diagnosed with Scleroderma, a rare auto-immune illness affecting less than 200,000 in the U.S. that causes chronic hardening and tightening of the skin and connective tissues. For Denise, the diagnosis after having no previous health concerns brought to the surface a full range of emotions given the fear of the unknown. Now 15+ years since the initial diagnosis, Denise has continued to battle at every turn and maintain a heroic level of strength and enthusiasm for life.
As witnesses to her courage, we set out on a mission to grow awareness for the illness and raise money to go towards support, education and research. With that in mind, we launched the Tournament of Non-Champions in 2011 to bring together friends and family for a great cause and a great time. Many ask of why we titled the event as such and the answer is two fold: 1) the event is designed to be as fun as possible while centrally focused on the mission / foundation and 2) we have a lot of friends and family that are simply horrible golfers.
The success of the event has been evident both in the growth in attendees and donations.
2011 - Raised $1,000 with 30 attendees
2012 - Raised $1,800 with 45 attendees
2013 - Raised $5,500 with 100 attendees
2014 - Raised $10,000 with 110 attendees
2015 - Raised $12,000 with 150 attendees
2016 - Raised $16,500 with 150+ attendees
2017 - Lets keep the momentum going
We continue to be overwhelmed with the impact of the event and the support of all those that have attended and contributed to raising awareness for Scleroderma. We give special thanks to the Scleroderma Foundation for playing a leading role in helping those impacted by Scleroderma and consistently striving for a cure.
Together, anything is possible - Thank you for your support.
